Illinois State University Competitive Dance Team at the RMP Studio Fall 2023

The Illinois State University competitive dance team came to the Ron McKinney Photography studio in Crystal Lake for their official team photo shoot.

While our first few years of doing the official team shoots were on the ISU campus in Normal, IL, we have switched the focus to the studio for the last two photo shoots.

The beauty of a studio shoot is that you don’t have to worry about weather, you’re not limited to how long the sun is shining, and you can create some really cool imagery in the studio.

Because my dance floor is 32 feet wide, it gives us the space we need to do any kind of team group shot that we want to do. They don’t have to be in all tight together. That really comes in handy with a large team like the Illinois State University competitive dance team.

Along with doing full team shots, we do class groups, some buddy shots, and individual shots. We do some shots against the white background, some against the reclaimed wood backdrop, some against the black backdrop with edgy lighting, and we set up a red backdrop as well as their team color is red.
