Stevenson High School varsity dance team came to our Crystal Lake photo studio to do a dance session with the team in red attire and set against an orange background. As a Chicago dance photographer, I really enjoy it when a team has a concept in mind.

These shoots with high school dance teams can be done one of two ways. With Stevenson, each dancer had 15 minutes with the idea I would create three images during that time. That allows me to create artistic lighting specific to each pose or leap.

The other way of doing these dance photo sessions is to have the whole team come in at the same time. When we do that, the lighting is more even and the focus is on the poses or leaps, and those shots are still quite amazing.
